Create Partition Without Formatting The Windows 7 Disk Management tool provides a simple interface that manages disk partitions and volumes.
There are two ways to open the Disk Management tool, by typing "diskmgmt.msc" in the command prompt or right-clicking on My Computer and choosing Manage option.

Now Computer Management will open the window.
Create Partition Without Formatting Select the Disk Management at the bottom of the 1Storage group.
Here you can see the list of all the available drives and partitions of your computer. Right click on the drive to which extra spare space will be left, select the Shrink Drive option.
Create Partition Without Formatting 2 A new window will open here, in which the free space available before shrinking this drive and information available for shrinking will be available. Next, give the number of space you want to shrink in that line, this will be the shape of this new partition.

Click on the "Shrink" option and wait for the process to complete.
Now you have created a new partition, which will be visible from the 'unallocated' name here. But before using it you have to format it.

A wizard will open. Let's go to this wizard and let the numbers given here remain like that.
Now the option of Format Partition will come. Choose "Format the volume with the following settings" option here. Also choose File System NTFS or FAT 32, Volume Label. If you want to format faster, choose the option of "Perform a quick format" and click Next.
Click Finish at the end.
Now you will be available to store a new partition data
