One reason for cleaning CMOS is that it helps to troubleshoot or solve some computer issues or hardware compatibility issues. Many times, with only BIOS, reset, the Dead PC can also be run ON again.

You should also clear CMOS to reset the BIOS or system-level password. Or if you have made some changes in the PC's BIOS, but now you suspect that now there is any kind of problem, you can still clear CMOS.

Below are three different ways to clear CMOS. In which you can choose any one method that you think is easy or your problem can be solved.

1) Clear CMOS With the "Factory Defaults" Option:

The easiest way to clear CMOS is to select Reset BIOS Settings for factory default level in BIOS Setup Utility.

For this, you have to start the PC and press the key of the BIOS setup that appears on your screen. These are often Delete or F2 keys.

If Delete or F2 is not working, try F8, F10, Esc or Tab.
If this key is not being present when the PC is started, then you should see the manual of your PC or motherboard.

Find the Reset option in the BIOS. It can be named by default Reset to default, Load factory defaults, Clear BIOS settings, Load setup defaults or similar.

By disconnecting and reconnecting the CMOS battery, you remove the power source that saves your computer's BIOS settings, so that it gets reset to the default.

3) Clear CMOS Using Motherboard Jumper:

If your BIOS is not accessible, almost all motherboards have a jumper that can be used to clear CMOS settings.

This is particularly useful if the BIOS is password-protected and you do not know the password or remember.
Shut down your PC, then find a jumper that appears in this image on the motherboard. Usually, it is near the CMOS battery or BIOS chip and it is labeled as CLEAR CMOS, CLRPWD, PASSWORD or just CLEAR.

If everything is okay, then close your computer, put the jumper in its original position, and then turn on the computer.

If you did not put these pin jumper again as it was before, CMOS would continue to be cleared once every PC started.

CMOS should always be cleaned for some reason - such as solving a computer problem or clearing a forgotten BIOS password. If your PC is working properly then there is no reason to clear your CMOS.
